This is new rule from The Cable TV Networks Regulation
Amendment Act 2011 has made it mandatory for switchover of the existing
Analogue signals to Digital signals with unique ids. This rule would be done in
4 phase in metro cities.
The last date announced for completed digitalization by
October 31st. so now all metro consumers have one and half month.
for every consumer may have problem about installation of
Digital set top box. According to census 2011 Review, there are 103.76 lakh
households in four metro cities of Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai.
Television penetration in four metros is 80% as per census.
Thus 82.59 lakh households have TV sets in four Metro
cities. Out of 82.59 lakh TV households, 25.59 lakh households have DTH
connection. Adding 20% provision for multiple TVs and offices, total 68.40 lakh
cable subscribers need to get STBs in four metros. Out of these, and 46.71 lakh
households have already installed cable Set Top Boxes (STBs).
Thus 68% of the TV households in the above mentioned four
metro cities have already become digital. The percentage achievement of
digitization goes up to 77% if DTH figures of 25.59 lakhs are also added.
