Cable TV, DTH players oppose TRAI move on inter-operable STBs

Cable TV operators and DTH service providers have opposed a move by the telecom regulator TRAI to introduce interoperability of set-top boxes (STBs), reports a business daily.
Interoperability allows users to change TV service providers without having to change their STB or dish antennae.
This is similar to the number portability introduced in mobile services.
DTH players say it is not feasible to introduce interoperability.
"No operator is making money by selling boxes, neither is the selling of boxes their core business. 2. Interoperability is a must to improve competition and drive out selfish business houses like Reliance, as they have started winding up mobile services since mobile no. portability started. They always want monopoly business to loot customers. TRAI, pleasedon't delay Interoperability.
