DD Freedish very soon to expand 250 TV Channels

DD Freedish India's only free direct to home service by Prasar Bharati (Doordarshan). At this time DD Freedish broadcasting 64 TV channels but very soon it is expected to expand up to 112 by March-end. Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley told in Parliament that the Department of Space (ISRO) had agreed in principle to provide additional transponders on newly launched satellite GSAT15 required for 250 TV channels in DD Freedish.

Mr. Jaitley also said Doordarshan has faced issues in implementing its conditional access system (CAS), but has now decided to adopt the Indian Conditional Access System (Indian CAS), which is being finalised by Department of Electronics and Information Technology. The system, developed by ByDesign India, is based on the DVB-C broadcasting standard.

GSAT-15 satellite, launched recently, has planned its mission for 12 years and this satellite will be located at same direction of INSAT-3A / INSAT-4B satellite at 93.5° East Longitude. GSAT-15 carries 24 Ku-band transponders with 36 Mhz high bandwidth.
